Seed Collection

                                                                                           Milkweed seeds (Asclepias genus)

You know it is seed collection time again if
you followed the WPC in the past five years. You may have even participated in one of
our seed collection workdays.

Join us again or for the first time on September 15 and October 20 for a nature walk in Washington Park to collect seeds from Midwestern native plants. We will come back in  winter to spread the seeds in WP's underdeveloped areas.

Native Americans and early settlers have been collecting seeds for centuries before the recent sustainable living buzz. As a child, I remember seeing seeds in every nook and cranny in our house where my grandmother stored them away for the next growing season. I guess you can say hoarding seeds are in my blood, I love collecting and storing many varieties of vegetable and native seeds. Most of all, I love to share seeds with others and listen to their stories of growing success. Become an avid seed collector and you’ll never buy another plant again.

Our 2012 seed collection workdays are September 15 and October 20 from 9a.m. until 12p.m.
