Bird Walks

On September 11th, 2010, WPC birders headed to the lagoon for the fall migratory bird walk, led by Bird and Conservationist
Marianne Hahn. While the rain hindered bird travel, volunteers were able to spot a unique grouping of northern
flickers that came out in large numbers in spite the bad
weather. Similarly, volunteers saw a hairy woodpecker working hard at collecting food on top one of the Lagoon’s trees. Due to the rain, the bird walk transformed into a nature walk, where
Marianne helped identify native grasses and invasive species.

In this walk, volunteers also saw a new crop of
thriving
plants seeded by the WPC back in May 2010 – the crop’s tremendous growth was one of the program’s most successful plantings.

On October 02, 2010, our birder Marianne Hahn led our second migratory bird walk to observe our avian friends on this beautiful autumn day. Although it was near the end of the year, our birding group was still in awe of birds and the appearance at the natural areas in autumn. We discovered a few new species of birds in Washington Park paths, and we still had the time to review native plants as they transformed into their autumn attire.
